By the looks of it we have loaned out Denilson and Vela is close to an agreement. Squilacci might be on his way out but we seem to still be lumbered with too many players on high wages who may never pull on an Arsenal shirt again.
By all accounts Chamakh earns nearly £2m an year with Squishy earning something similar. Diaby gets about the same plus lifetime job security and medicare!! After this last season and with one year left before he has to join the military who would want Park? Denilson and Vela will be on the books until their contracts expire because no one will pay them anything near to what we do. I doubt we could give either away. Bendtner is the only one who is likely to find suitors and once again this is held back by his wage demands and his belief that he is world class and deserves world class treatment.
On top of these we have a few players who really should be let go for footballing reasons:
Fabianski, Mannone, Djourou, Lansbury, Arshavin and a few younger players who are just not good enough.
We have too many players taking up squad places that genuinely hinder the progress of younger players. Why buy Eisfeld only to let him languish in the reserves? What about Martinez in place of Mannone, who is championship level at best? Is Campbell getting a work permit? If not why the hell did we buy him?
Thoughts anyone?

There certainly are a lot of players to get rid of. We need to shed about 15 in total.
Its not going to be easy though as our past wage structure makes it very difficult to move them on... they are simply paid too much and footballer these days would rather sit on the bench and earn £50k a week than play somewhere else for £30k a week.

I wonder if Arsene may say after this weekend that Henri Lansbury is like a new player......
Shall we sticky this thread pals and follow the developments to come?

Bloody excellent thread PNE !!!
It makes my blood boil seeing those names time and time again, how can any so-called business savvy company get themselves in such a muddle ?? They claim kudos for putting money in the bank but then squander money like it is going out of style !!! Why the hell do we still have Squishy, Vela and Denilson still on our books ? How long will we continue hoping Diaby will come good ? I mean, its not like RVP, at least he played a fair few games during the seasons he was actually injured and at least we saw "genuine" brilliance from him. With Diaby its the odd flash turn and run here and there. Not good enough.
Why do we still have Chamakh ? It is clear we don't want him, make a free kin decision and get rid of him then. What is the point in keeping him, paying his full wages but not playing him ? Why do we have Park ?
This club is getting on my bloody nerves, it really is. We are the Dither Masters !! Stop bloody dithering about - bunch of fukwits. Grow some nuts and make some decisions that will actually benefit the club.

We'd be better off letting them go for nothing so their new club could afford to match the wages over the contract. This is especially true because MOST of the deadwood cost us little to nothing - we'd only be gaining from not having to pay wages. I suspect the greedy board members want to make a profit on failures.

Exactly. We bought them for next to nothing so sell them for the same and get them off our wage bill FFS.

I have sympathy with the club for most of these players but for a variety of reasons they just haven't cut it. Fair enough, time to let them move on. The problem, as you guys have said, is how much we've paid them. I'd not complain about it if they were awesome but ... well.... they're not.
Squillachi - Very solid French international. Experienced in Europe and doing well in Spain. I was actually quite excited when we brought him and thought he'd be the ideal player to shore up our leaky defence. Not strong enough or quick enough. You can often substitute one for the other but, as in his case, are f*cked if you've neither. Don't doubt he'll be fine in Europe.
Denilson - Captained Brazil at every youth level. Looked awesome and I was really pleased we got him. Popped up with some very useful goals but, whilst I don't think he was as bad as people made out, also didn't cut it and also didn't seem to fit our system.
Vela - Supremely talented but not a lad designed for English football! Much happier in Spain where it's warmer and he doesn't get hoofed 8 feet up in the air by norther gargantuans!
Arshavin - Mecurial talent. Bloody frustating player... I love Arshavin. Think he's always been played out of position which has frustrated me, and I could see him getting annoyed at team mates for not thinking on his wave length. Clearly he switched off for us which I can in some part sympathise with. Just wish the lazy tart would have tracked back more. Shame, but time to say goodbye.
Fabianski - Meh. Showed just how good he could be last season when playing regularly but he's also shown just how awful he can be. Far too often for my liking. Would be an ok goalie if starting regularly but an atrocious back-up keeper. Sadly for him, Chezzers is a better player so that kind of answers that in my eyes.
Chamakh - Another frustrating one. Can see why we got him as he was playing well and experienced in Europe. Looked like a fantastic bargain initially too. For one reason and another his confidence left him and he's a fraction of the player he was. Giroud coming in seems to have signed his P45 though as they're soo similar and I can't see him starting ahead of a player we've spent £13m on. Shame as he wasn't as bad as people said, just bereft of belief.
Park - Hmm. Call me cynical but I think we poached him purely on merchandising purposes and, should he turn out to be ok, then awesome. He didn't. In his defence he's hardly been given much of a chance but I don't think he's up to the grade. Probably not an awful player, just an ok one who's never been given the opportunity to settle. Feel bad about it tbh.
Lansbury - I feel sorry for Henri. He so wants to succeed for us and is a useful utility player. Is he good enough? Probably not, but he tries his nuts off for every second he's on the pitch and can play in a multitude of positions. Didn't cut it at West Ham but then I'm not sure I'd want to touch a player that flourishes under Fat Sam's 'tactics'. Norwich fans fooking love him. I'd like to keep him for cup games and injuries but I'd understand if he went. One thing is for sure and that's that he could teach some of our players about trying.
Mannone - Average at best I reckon. Nearly sold him to Hull but we might be asking too much. Hope we let him go as it's not right to make a player rot, just for an extra 250k.
Djourou - Not sure why he's on PNE's list. A solid, if not awesome CB. As things stand a perfectly acceptable 4th choice and better than most have. Just keep him away from RB! Only annoying thing is how much we have to pay him. I'd rather sell him and have a cheaper, younger option but, as far as CB options go, we've got a good 1st 4.
....phew.

I agree with most of that. Loved Arsh - but a luxury for the way we play. Denilson became a tame sideways passer, and loser. Chamakh - demoralised?

I agree with Djourou - we've seen him have some cracking games.
The problem with defence is and has always been leadership .. who is the leader ??
Can you imagine how good a defender Djourou would be with Keown or Tony Adams beside him ?!!! He'd be a beast.

yes - we never have a shouter (leader) to pull the guys into a formation. It always seems to be frantic running back out of position to stop the breakaway attack.

We seem to need so many people yet continuously leak them while being saddled with the ones we wish would go. I don't see change in the remaining time of Arsene Wenger. It will only happen in the first instance if a manager who steps into his shoes were strong enough to make demands of this board.
Have we or are we addressing the issue of the wonky wages policy, does anyone know?

Ivan the terrible said that was key going forward - and to reduce the wages bill by £23m.
