to be true. I actually wondered if this was the season when we would actaually make a loss on the transfer front. A season when we will not lose core members of the first team.
We have spent roughly about 40million on Carzola, Giroud and Podolski, and if reports are to be believed from Sky Sports that Barca VP has flown in to conclude Song's signing, the figure of 15mill is being quoted, add that to RVP's imminent depature for 22mill that is break-even..... No one knows what is happening on the Walcott front, if he goes that's another 15mill, so that is a net profit of 15mill. I have not even factored in the one or two of the fringe players (e.g. B52) who are likely to be sold.
What really irks me is this feeling that we take 1 small step forward and 4 backwards. How many teams in or around the top 4 sell core members of their team every season? I know Song is not everyone's cup of tea, (I guess Barca also do not know what they are doing, coming to bid for a rubbish player)..... Everyone is saying sell sell sell him, get Mvilla, Capoue, Sahin blah blah.... What they conveniently forget is these players have no premier league experience, who knows if they will acquit themselves in this league, a certain Mr Reyes/Arshavin springs to mind..... As the saying goes a bird in hand is worth 2 in the bush!
I can guarantee if Song goes, none of those afore-mentioned players will be brought in as replacemements...... So you guys can dream on!

One minute we're up, and the next our fortunes appear crashed down. The prospects for improving our squad and hence challenging for any honours seem to go up and down like a whore's knickers/knockers. The end game is always securing more transfer income than expenditure. Whether you like it or not - we can be called a selling club. In fact if it wasn't for Wenger's policy of paying crazy money on the glimpse of potential - we'd sell or loan far more youngsters than we do. Then we have the small (or large if you prefer) issue of the money being paid out to what has become called the 'deadwood'.
Ivan stated a change in policy and taking steps to cut wages - currently we are still increasing the costs......

This time Wenger will be proven to a complete liar if Song goes. He has come out and said clearly that there is nothing happening on that front.
Wenger is lying or Sky Sports are lying.

The end game is always securing more transfer income than expenditure. Whether you like it or not - we can be called a selling club. This is precisely my observation..... It is all about net profit from transfer.... Why don't these guys (buyers) come for our less established players, why do we struggle to give these players away..... Apart from Arteta last season, Song was a key member of that midfield. Why not try and sell Diaby, Ramsey, Arshavin.....? Simple reason, no one wants them! How can we win anything, really don't know why I was so optimistic this season.... must have been mad! No player in that team is sacred... well apart from the ones we cannot shift for love or money!

It wont just be Wenger, Song stated that he was very happy with the club and wasn't looking to move at the same time we hear that he has already agreed personal terms with Barca. You cant trust anyone in football these days.

Arsenal are now officially a feeder club for teams who win things i.e the Manc's and Barca
Wenger seems to have capitulated on his so called principles and is now a laughing stock for his press comments about players going nowhere.

Makes me think a lot of this is being done behind Wenger's back, I mean, I refuse to believe that he would lie so blatantly. Like last season when he said categorically we would not sell Nasri or Fabregas. then he made the statement that if we sell the 2 players we cannot call ourselves a BIG club - I think that was a "read between the lines" statement to the board - and they went and sold him anyway.
I think Wenger's hands are tied .. but earning £6m a season .. why would he complain ?!!

I think we have been that for a long time.... Just annoys me the ease with which we sell our players......

I think Wenger's hands are tied .. but earning £6m a season .. why would he complain ?!! That and of course let us not forget that he is admired by most of the industry internationally. Getting 15 years of bites at the CL cherry has all but cemented the good part of his reputation. Until we change this board, CEO and owner it is most unlikely that there will be a reversal of policy at Arsenal. I think we all know this but sadly are powerless to do anything.

However, (don't want to play devil's advocate) do we really need him? Can Diaby not play in his role?

However, (don't want to play devil's advocate) do we really need him? Can Diaby not play in his role? Who? Arsene?? ;D Only j/k my friend. Diaby could and at one stage seemed a good fit but that frightful injury, the memory of which provoked his retaliation against that ever-present hood Joey Barton hasn't helped. Since then he really hasn't played much and of course there is the constant worry of injury. I'm not sure if we can place all our eggs in the Diaby basket. Please don't get me wrong. He could return a hero but right now I think we need one more in that zone of the pitch.

OMO - no ... Diaby can't play that role because he has less defensive discipline than Song and he has made only slightly more public appearances than Lord Lucan in recent years !!

In that case, let's assume the worst happens we sell Song and we do not get a replacement to a (let'e be honest) a congested midfield, how do you guys see us linnig up without Song? What about Arteta, player of the season after RVP imho, how would he play Arteta and Carzola together? Maybe Wenger has it all worked out? No?
