A very warm welcome to our little haven where the talk is all about our great club, Arsenal. As many of you will know, this group was formed so we could come together to engage in discussions and debates in an environment free of the need to toe the official line. Indeed there you will not find any bullying or baiting of members, no name-calling or derisory remarks. We gather here to talk about the beautiful game in an atmosphere of mutual respect, understanding and hopefully we will all learn more about the game and the club we love.
Given the occasional volatile nature of sports discussion we would ask everyone to exercise an element of give and take so no situation will get out of hand. Therefore please consider carefully before you post anything which may be inflammatory or be injurous to others. There will be no place for derogatory remarks directed at members. Address others the way you yourself would like to be addressed. If you remember to keep it clean and keep it nice, we can all enjoy our time here which is the intention of this forum. We do not intend to over moderate but if a post is deemed to be excessive, it will be modified and the member who made the post notified. While a three strike rule applies it is envisaged that we will never have to exercise this.
The idea is to bring the fun back into the talk. That way we can call this place our very own and when you walk into your own place, there's no one to take your head off right? You can tell I'm single!!! LOL
Enjoy my friends!!!

Thanks guys I should try to put up some helpful hints about how the Proboards system works. Jayram has already posted something about this. In Profile, you can go into Modify Profile to make changes to your settings. Avatars can be placed - remember there is a size limit. ANd don't forget siggies of course. Now as the saying goes - let's see yours Keep enjoying Pals

To me the job is about moderation (obvious?) - so many on club boards take it on themselves to browbeat. I think the role is to act as peacemaker and policeman -to diffuse continuous rows that go on and on. Banter and humour are to be encouraged - vendettas are not to be tolerated. Sometimes contributors need to be warned - for clearly setting out to antagonise, wum or abuse. A mod should be able to warn and seek agreement to apply a temporary ban - a cooling off period.
A MOD should also refrain from too strong opinions - sadly I would have to curb my statements on Wenger a little. I would seek to reduce the infantile entries which bring the board into disrepute. Extreme swearing is to be frowned on - not eliminated - but entries that appear pointless, simply to offend has to be dealt with.
So although I would have a go - I would resign if I find I cannot tidy up the worst aspects of the forum. You might want to pass these, my views, to any other considering the role. Differing views between MODs would not be ideal. Lets hope we can go forwards - and COME ON ARSENAL...

... I just want a forum to debate the issues and be able to say if I think something is wrong without having to listen to Piskie and CYM. That's just it. Over there, you simply aren't allowed it seems, to hold a different opinion to that of the ' chosen '. If you do you are either a WUM or troll or anything else they would like to call you. I do wonder if some of them there are grown ups.

Nice to see so many civilised people in one place. Now we just need to attract a few uncivilised types so we can bask in our moral, spiritual and intellectual superiority....

well OK - but I found to my cost - my concern, and sadness about AW led many to think I was only negative about the club. To repeat, I sound out others on where we can improve, if I was content with the status quo I wouldn't bother.
I also value all posters - just because Piskie is twice a season flying from Cornwall to a match, and the Militant tendency dismisses you if you haven't been a supporter for at least 30 years doesn't improve their standing. I'm not impressed that Hotty knows all the alleys within a mile of Emirates (laugh), and others can remember the bloke in the chippee, who had a sister that was a cleaner in one of the players' homes. In other words - you may not be able to afford to attend, you may be overseas, you may have other commitments - but your best wishes and support for Arsenal is enough.

Exactly. I was super negative about everything Arsenal last season. There was nothing to be positive about. To each their own, who is anyone to say you must only be happy even though everything is shocking ? I refused to be. And their argument that some people only posted negatively, well, a lot of people post when they are upset, which is normal. A forum is an excellent way to vent frustration and I don't have a problem with negative posts or posters.

I think on not606 if you posted a couple of negative comments you were targeted by the mods. I did a check of my thread on not606 and I was about 60/40 in favour of negativity, but the positive stuff just got forgotten in with all the vindictiveness. I would be totally positive if there was nothing to grumble about, unfortunately that has not bevthe case for several years.

Too many seem to have accepted mediocrity as our lot. Winning trophies isn't everything but being competitive is what we should always be.

correct - I can accept winning is harder than ever - but we must be seen to be addressing our weaknesses. The manager has to be a hard ruthless bastard at times - firing as well as sweet-talking. I think motivating on the training pitch is quite different to matchday.
