If this story is ture then it makes me very happy - its the first signal that we wont be pushed around and just accept it... It would be long overdue. We've been acting like second class citizens for too long.

What worries me about the men who run our club is that they make RvP stay and in the hope that he may extend his contract but beyond Podolski and Giroud, sign no one else of any consequence. If they were to do that then we head into the new season without a complete squad and will run the grave risk of losing possession in midfield again as we did in the past year and perhaps too have problems keeping the oppositions' goals out of our box and net. They have to convince RvP and us that they mean to do considerably more.

It would be great if they are trying to keep him but I fear that this may be a ploy by the board who will claim that they did everything in their power but could not keep him and as a consequence could not find a replacement in time (If he leaves of course). It not just about keeping RVP though there are still cracks in the core of our team that need to be addressed including in defence and midfield and we still dont have a strong enough squad overall to compete for the title with the likes of City. The deadwood needs to go and we need to find replacements that will actually strengthen the team.

Precisely Mr A, simply persuading RvP to stay without addressing the other issues will not make us a winning side. It only means we are sharing the reliance of goal scoring between him, Pod and Giroud. If we keep losing possession in midfield yet again then like many I will question Arsene's sanity in all this.

Yes but its a start guys. Forcing RVP to stay sends out a strong message not just to the other clubs around Europe but also the Arsenal fans AND most importantly the other Arsenal players. One step at a time - we have a long road ahead. I just hope this is a sign that the club are actually bothered about setting off on the journey

One step further down the track is good Jayram but we need to pick up the pace or the end of August will be upon us and we won't have signed the players we need but wait.......Arsene will probably say we have the players returning to the side and have no need of anyone else. You know, the same players who did hardly anything of consequence and who won't contribute anything to enhancing the fans' sporting ambitions. Notice I said fans since this club under this management has none

I like the idea of him staying the extra year to allow Giroud and Podolski to become accustomed to the EPL without undue pressure on their shoulders. Frankly, I don't care that the club doesn't get the 10-15m we could get for RVP now as it's not like it ever get's reinvested in the fecking team anyway!

I would like him to stay on his own accord. If the club forces him to stay and yet do nothing about strengthening our weaknesses then we won't be getting much further if at all than last season. This should it happen, would be a disservice to RvP and the fans since it represents nothing but false hope. If we mean business then we should get on with it. Anything else is more or less, more of the same.

I doubt they mean to actually do this. I would suggest it is more a ploy to get more money if he goes now.

I doubt they mean to actually do this. I would suggest it is more a ploy to get more money if he goes now. I doubt that they could get the fans to swallow that. To fold so quickly on your stated intent based on the size of the cheque would give significant substance to the critics. Similarly, if they held on to the last minute, then folded when we had little time to replace him - thus repeating the mistakes of last year - Gazidis and Wenger would get slaughtered. Not even 'you know who' could defend that ;D

Perhaps we should foster a culture at N5 in the manner that almost every CEO these days seems bound to be summoned before a parliamentary select committee of one description or another when something is amiss that the CEO of Arsenal should himself be made to answer the most awkward of questions along the lines of ...
" Would you say Mr Gazidis that this shambles is a result of a catastrophic failure of your management? "
Answers on a postcard please ;D
