According to the short fuse (Internet blog), Barcelona still owe us a fee of around 12 million pound for Cesc Fabregas. I'm not one to point the finger at the board and accuse them of ineptitude, but how are we allowing them to basically keep the money? Surely the accounts division would realise that there's another 12 million that can be put into short term investments?
Anyone with opinions?

I heard we were owed money as far back as the Henry and Helb deal so i'm not the least bit surprised if this is the case. We keep hearing that our board are astute businessmen but from what I have seen so far they are nothing of the sort. We practically gave Fabregas to Barca and they have been cheap in a number of potential deals where we could have got the player we were fighting for. That extra £2 million for Mata would have been nothing in the long run but they couldn’t see that.

If Barca still owe unpaid fees for the 3 players, how come we've not taken legal action?

This is nothing new with Spanish teams. I remember RM owed us over half of Anelka's £23M for a long time.
It makes a mockery of the transfer fee's agreed but as the saying goes 'fool us once shame on them, fool us twice shame on us'.

they often protest 'we have not got the money' - well the answer is simple - DON'T BUY.

I know a lot of clubs don't pay the full amount up front so .. its not a great surprise to me. I guess it depends on the terms of the payments, if Barca are sticking to them then there isn't a lot we can do, however, if they are holding out on us they shouldn't be allowed to buy anyone until they clear the money that they owe.

Wasnt this problem how we got Fabregas in the first place? they couldnt pay for one of the players so they offered up some youngsters for the money they couldnt pay

I don't think Barca could stop it? Cesc realised he was behind others - so jumped ship.

It seems like we may be using this tactic for any deal involving Song, we were linked with afellay but it seems that Wenger wants one of the Barca youngsters instead.
