..... and still without a car truly worth the name but in placing the Ferrari on pole for today's British Grand Prix, Fernando Alonso has really placed his stock above that of his rivals. In a car that barely made the grade in Melbourne and in a season where no other driver has registered more than one victory, Alonso has won twice and finally went round qualifying faster than anyone else. The gap may have been small but what counted was that he came out ahead. When Fernando Alonso won his first world title in 2005 I was rooting for Kimi Raikkonen but at season's end I began to realise that in taking the crown against the much faster Mclaren of Raikkonen, he has achieved only that which has been the province of two other world champions, namely in winning with a lesser car. Only Alain Prost in 1986 and Michael Schumacher in 1995, coincidentally both against rivals in Williams cars, have managed that feat. Alonso has truly placed his name among the greats and should he be fortunate enough to take the title this year, would achieve another milestone, to be the youngest ever triple world drivers' champion. Dude .. I don't know what the hell is going on with this rain. Not sure I want a wet race but it does tend to even things out a bit.
I'm loving the unpredictability of this season mind you, excellent stuff.
Hamilton to win of course ....

This rain is such a pain. Yesterday's QF was looking a lottery and thank Heaven Charlie Whiting had the good sense to call a halt to it. That dolt Eddie Jordan was bemoaning it but doesn't see it from the driver's point of view. DC himself pointed out the necessity for this. I suppose it would sadly have taken a major accident for Jordan to be as he should - not seen or heard. Have a Sunny Sunday Dude

Yeah its ludicrous - when Sky showed the footage on board with Hamilton when he came upon another car at great speed because he didn't see it .... the decision to halt the session was a good one. Driver's safety has to be the first concern.
I am debating which, if any, race I will go to see this year, I really want to get to a race.

Weather spoilt the weekend - but the actual race was run OK. The grid line up was not ideal - but the changed circuit looks good. RedB look strong again, Ferrari staring to pick up - but McLaren swing back and forth - seems like there are gremlins they cannot solve. Lotus are a fun addition - but Sauber have dropped away. Title still anyone's?

Title is almost anyone's but I am quietly smiling for Fernando.
The soft tyres didn't work for Ferrari today but it's looking a lot better for Ferrari now than a few months back.
Didn't realise you follow F1 my friend? Been an addict since my sKOOLdays.

Mclaren blow hot and cold, on race days I don't understand why Hamilton lacks so much pace compared to Lotus. But Sauber look good with Perez, if only that donkey Maldonando stopped crashing into people, the racing would be even better. Shout to Grosjean too, looks ridiculously quick !!

Jim Clark was my darling ....... <whistle> - showing my age. Jim Clark was a good guy and while he was before my time, I read and saw vids about him. That too was a time when racers were gentlemen. Very few now as I'm sure you'll agree. Back to the race. Ratz I was hoping Ferrari may have employed a more effective tyre strategy but then again the RB was a faster car and it was good that Fernando managed 2nd. Fernando was delighted and probably philosophical about the result but I'msure he and the team would prefer the 25x table though. Felt very sorry for Paul Di Resta and Jenson Button, both of whom deserve better this weekend. I used to think JB was a spolied kid with his toys before and he probably was. However following his championship year, he became an exemplary ambassador for the sport and one I am proud to list as one of my 3 favourite drivers of the moment. PDR should have a very bright future and now, he like JB, is a gent. Much to look forward to.
