They can bid all they like but unless they plan to pay silly money they are not going to get him

Why don't they just bid for all our players and let us have theirs that would save a lot of fraffing around. LOL

Jeez , they couldn't even go one summer without trying to take our players. I though they had the best development system in the world with a whole reserve team of Jack Wilshere's...

This story has to be utter bollox !!
The suggestion that Barcelona would need a one paced, slow, technique lacking, clumsy, lummox like Song is preposterous !!
They have Busquets and Mascherano who can all play the holding role and can all pass and who are all disciplined with it. Why on earth would they want Song ?

No direct quotes in the article either. Lazy journalism I am afraid. If they could find a link to me and Fabregas they would say Barca are after me as well. In fact .. I do have a link to Fabregas; I chatted up Fabregas' missus' sister in Ibiza a couple years ago

;D HotHead, how do you find all these people?
I remember you saying you met David Dein's daughter, you danced with David Beckham's sister and now you say you spoke to Fabregas's girlfriend's sister. How do you find all these links ??

LOOOOL - well ... now you put it like that .. it makes sound like a right tart .. which I probably am It is all true though ... David Dein's daughter was comfortably the prettiest, mamma frikkin mia !!! Beckham's sister was a bit bottom heavy lol and not especially attractive, Fabregas' bird's sister had the best shape comfortably and a very pretty smile. Not the same thing but I dated an Italian girl who's best friend was Valentino Rossi's best friend !! Rossi is my idol so that had extra meaning for me.

rumours on this are rife !! Well .. I say rife, a slight exaggeration.
there will only be a handful of us saddened by this if it did happen. I had to laugh when I read "Barca impressed with his creative abilities" ;D
What creative ability ? When RVP goes he won't have anyone to convert that "pass" of his.

If he would just stay as DM then he would be very effective but his constant floating up-field has caused our defence so many problems and he loses the ball in very dangerous areas because he is trying to be too clever at times. A good player for us but nonetheless a replaceable one, but the rumor is Barca are offering 11 million for him which is not nearly enough in my opinion.

Agreed. If he would just sit we wouldn't be so useless at defending.
If they are serious about this .. if they want him, he'd gonna cost double what they are offering, after all he is our first choice CM.

I find your description of Song's ability/lack of quite insulting and disparaging. Whether you like it or not or want to accept it, Song has grown into his role, he may not have been consistent last term, but he remains a key member of our team. He is one of our most improved players, and I believe there is still more to come from him. On one hand you say he is rubbish, on the other hand you say he is worth at least 24mill!

Let me explain.
I do not rate Song, I never have, I think he is limited and nothing special, I don't see what he does that is good or even great. that aside, lets look at the role he plays for us. He is the most physically commanding midfielder we have and the most defensive minded. This makes him VITAL for us because nobody else comes close - hence his importance to us. His importance to us is the reason I say any bid from Barca would need to be double what is claimed they have bid.
On a personal point of view, Song would be the most improved players because he was so bad before. He is positionally all over the place, he has no pace, he is clumsy, he holds the ball too long in tight situations, his range of passing is poor. Technically I do not rate him at all. I think we can do much better than Song and if we are serious about wanting to do well it cannot be with Song in the team, squad yes but not as a regular starter.
I maintain, the only reason Song is the first name on the team sheet is because we don't have anyone in that position who comes close to him, this is a major failure of the management team.

I guess you have your opinion on Song and will not try and convince you to change your mind.
However I remember when we loaned him out to Charlton, and was hoping Charlton made the loan permanent. Glad he has proved me wrong. We have had players with big talents (Arshavin, Diaby, Walcott etc etc), of which so much was expected and we are still waiting for them to deliver, whereas we have players like Song, did not cost a thing (well not a lot) practically unknown and improve year on year and yet are judged harshly.
I also think the danger is that we look at our current crop of players and compare them to the invincible, that was a golden era and one we might not witness again. There is a general malaise for fans to look at our players and judge them by the players at Mancini's disposal. However, I was at the last Arsenal v City game, our boys did not disgrace themselves, Song was immense that day.... We will not spend silly money like city, chelsea and united do, but I feel we have to commend our boys for continually punching above their weight.
I really do not get your assertion, that Song is the best of what we have (a player who can hold his own in the top 4 team in EPL) and how that shows a management failure. I remember bumping into his agent during the negotiations for a new contract a few years ago, I was astounded at how much Arsenal were offering to pay him....... actually I was angry at Arsenal ripping him off!

Omogooner, rating footballers is totally subjective, I don't expect anyone to totally get my views on everything - especially someone like Song who so many rate. My view comes from being a CM myself and seeing what he does in comparison to what I can/could do and my peers. It also comes from having been lucky enough to play with Premier league standard footballers at amateur level - most of whom did not go on to big things, but again I am familiar with their technical ability.
It is this reason I don't rate Song much, I've seen dozens of players I would class as better than Song who are not currently pro. Song's lack of range of passing bothers me - I have never seen him strike the ball with "check/fade" - thats the cross field ball Scholes likes to play where the ball arrows dead straight, no curl. Players with basic technique rarely if ever strike the ball that way because its easy to fluff it. The curled ball is a far safer option because you have a larger margin for error - but the curled pass has limited application - the ball doesn't travel anywhere near as far.
Song has had amazing games, utterly incredible but, every man has his day. If size and strength, in my view, is the main reason Song is so important to us then I think that is a failing of the management team because you can find big strong players everywhere, for a club our size we should have big strong players in abundance - with the technical ability needed at a top club.
