Apprently Carzola past his medical and a fee of £16m has been agreed, he also met with the rest of the boys today so all that’s left is for Arsenal to officially confirm it. Not great news about Sahin if were to believe from the Metro as United are now looking at Sahin: www.metro.co.uk/sport/907451-manchester-united-look-to-hijack-nuri-sahins-arsenal-transfer#ixzz22avZ7VyUEarlier I saw a story that Morhino said he wouldn’t stand in Wengers way to get Sahin on loan and all that was left was a medical, but that story has been removed from the BBC gossip column which is a bit worrying. The other good news is that all the teams in for RVP have cooled their interest in him meaning that he may pen a new deal with us I'm not sure i want RvP to stay, he's obviously only considering a U-turn because nobody else wants him. Regarding Cazorla, the sooner we sort that out, the better. We're miles ahead of Man U in the Sahin race, so we should be close to completing that soon.

I would definitely want to keep RVP, I didn’t blame him when he said he wanted to go because we at the time were looking like we weren’t going anywhere went it came to winning trophies and the messages we were getting were that we were not going to buy players. Since we have shown ambition the reports are that he is impressed: www.dailystar.co.uk/football/view/265469/RVP-raises-Arsene-Wenger-s-hopes/I think the other teams did and still do want him but as he has said before he wants to win trophies with Arsenal and it has never been about money. I honestly believe him when he says that because he has always shown how much he cares for this team whenever he has played for us, something many of our current crop have lacked. And even if he was telling a lie, the guy is a world class player and our team is much stronger with him in it than without him in the team.

Would the other players be happy about playing with a guy who basically admitted that they aren't good enough? It could really hurt team spirit.

He didn’t signal anyone out or say that the team was weak, he said the club (meaning the board) lacked ambition which was true given our position last season and the fact that we weren’t buying players really. If anything I think keeping him would inspire the squad, I mean the guy carried the team last year, if I was in the team I would be far more worried if he had left than if he stays because he leads from the front by example. I'm not saying that we should keep him as our captain as that clearly won’t happen but keeping him is defiantly better for us in my opinion.

I think RVP is fine in what he did, and all he needs to do is restate his intent if he signs again. The fans will get behind him. I know of one twat on another board, who is actually a mod, who went completely over the top on the situation.

I've lost some respect for RvP though, how are to know whether his intentions were noble (force the board into signings) or ignoble (looking for big money elsewhere). I guess we'll find out in time, but i would strip him of the captaincy, the captain isn't supposed to put the club in such a position, even if it was "taking one for the team"

Personally I liked what he said and, after all, it had been obvious for a while he was not fully committed. He didn't really tell us anything we didn't already know. I admire that honesty. If he signs up to end his career with us the man will get a testimonial more than likely for being at the club 10 years! When you look at it like that you realise just how loyal he has been. I think there are some that have gone over the top - I believe its because they were so sure that RVP was 100% committed and were proved spectacularly wrong!

At first i agreed with RvP, the club lacked ambition, he was right to be critical, but when it was revealed he rejected someone because he wanted more money, i did lose some respect there, he has been a great servant to us though, he will probably never recreate the form he's shown for the last year and a half, but wherever he ends up, he will be an asset to them. If he's not fully committed to us however, the sooner we sell the better, we can strengthen weaker areas with the money we'll get, and we don't want a half arsed v.Persie doing a half arsed job.

I want him to stay and I think he will score 25+ goals again this season - whoever he plays for... ...anyway off to get some zzzzz's. Good chatting, Kyle

3 issues here a) will the players respect RVP, b) is he being driven by money, c) are the club matching his ambition.
a) I don't see why the players would not respect RVP, he didn't actually come out and criticise the club, he simply said they disagree on how the club should move forward, he didn't actually say the club lacks ambition. With him being our best player it is hard to imagine the other players not being relieved that he is staying as opposed to upset/angry that he does not want to stay past his contract.
b) In his statement he states that financial terms or his contract were not a priority. Now we can take that at face value or question his motives but, we need to be careful; Arsenal fans tend to take a dim view of our players when they leave the club and I think some of the time it is unfair. If it was a money decision he would got to PSG, Russia or China - if as it is claimed by his father that he won't join an English rival. City most likely would offer more than Man U, it will be interesting to see if Juve stump up the claimed £200k per week after tax.
c) After years of erosion of squad quality Arsenal bring in Pod and Giroud. Good signings but not marquee signings. Nonetheless it is a step in the right direction and both players could yet have a massive influence on next season. It is not fair of RVP if he expects a glut of marquee signings as a show of ambition but at the same time his next contract will be key to his career, it will be his last big contract ! Would those 2 signings alone make him believe Arsenal are now intent on "winning" as opposed to just "qualifying" ? No. However, if we get Cazorla that really WOULD be a statement of intent and if we get any of the other players we are being linked with - added to what we currently have, thats a bloody good team right there - I believe capable of challenging.

It seems Man Utd want to buy Sahin according to reports on the BBC.

Would Real be willing to sell him considering he's not been with them for long. hopefully that will scupper their thievery plans.
